“My Hero Academia” celebrates anniversary with live-action video

In a few weeks, “My Hero Academia” will be celebrating its tenth anniversary, which the franchise is accompanying with a live-action short film, among other things. We summarize below.

Short film with iconic quotes

Almost ten years ago, in July 2014, the first chapter of “My Hero Academia” appeared in the “Weekly Shounen Jump” magazine published by Japanese publisher Shueisha. An impressive run that only a handful of titles in the manga industry ever achieve.

To celebrate this milestone, those responsible have released a live-action short film entitled “Sucession”, which at first glance seems to have nothing to do with “My Hero Academia” as it gives a brief insight into the lives of two brothers.

The twelve-minute clip, which you can find below, accompanies the older brother on his journey to adulthood. He leaves video messages for his younger brother to encourage him when he is feeling down.

However, keen fans who listen closely will quickly notice that each video message contains an iconic quote from “My Hero Academia”. The final scene of the short film in particular is a homage to the end of the first chapter. The pose as well as the camera angle and the big brother’s words correspond to the scene of Izuku “Deku” Midoriya and All Might.

The anime series “My Hero Academia” consists of six seasons so far, which were broadcast on Japanese television between April 2016 and March 2023. The seventh season started on May 4, 2024 and is simulcast in this country on the streaming service Crunchyroll with subtitles.
